Como os prometí aquí estoy recién llegada de mis vacaciones para contaros algunas cosas de este viaje tan especial a Jamaica, un país donde nada más aterrizar comienzan a sonar en nuestros oídos “redemption songs” o canciones de libertad y redención. Y es que esta isla de las Antillas Mayores, situada en el mar Caribe, al sur de Cuba y al oeste de La Española (donde están Haití y la República Dominicana), tiene su propia vibración porque su alma es, por encima de todo, maravillosamente musical y mágica, ya que además de destacar por sus magníficas playas, Jamaica es el país del reagge y los rastafaris y en sus regiones más recónditas se descubre una cultura llena de grandes contrastes…

As I promised you here, I am just coming back from my vacation to tell you some things about this very special trip to Jamaica, a country where nothing more to do starts ringing in our ears “redemption songs” or songs of freedom and redemption. And this island of the Greater Antilles, located in the Caribbean Sea, to the south of Cuba and to the west of Hispaniola (where they are Haiti and the Dominican Republic), has its own vibration because its soul is, above all, Wonderfully musical and magical, as well as being noted for its magnificent beachs, Jamaica is the country of the reggae and the Rastafarians and in its most hidden regions a culture full of great contrasts is discovered …
La isla es un punto de reunión entre la cultura africana, la cultura asiática, europea e incluso de oriente medio y por eso al llegar se experimenta esa diversidad, unido además, a su increíble naturaleza que ofrece pequeñas y grandes calas de arena blanca al más puro estilo caribeño, junto a montañas escarpadas, acantilados y cascadas tropicales o cuevas, que han sido escenarios de muchas películas… En mi estancia me alojé en el Royalton White Sands Montego Bay (Diamond Club), un maravilloso Hotel rodeado de preciosas playas donde la vida se detiene para empezar a disfrutar del relax, del que os traigo estas bonitas fotos y del que ya os enseñé un vídeo en mi anterior post (aquí)...
The island is a meeting point between African culture, Asian culture, European and even the Middle East and that is why when you arrive you will experience that diversity, united in addition to its incredible nature that offers small and large coves of white sand at most Pure Caribbean style, along steep mountains, cliffs and tropical waterfalls or caves, which have been stages of many films … In my stay I stayed at the Royalton White Sands Montego Bay (Diamond Club), a wonderful Hotel surrounded by beautiful beaches where life stops to start enjoying the relax, I bring you these beautiful photos and of which I showed you a video in my previous post (here)…
Jamaica fue en el pasado una posesión española conocida como “Santiago”, entre 1494 y 1655, cuando fue invadida por tropas inglesas y más tarde, se convirtió en colonia británica, logrando su independencia en 1962. Por eso, la cultura jamaicana es el producto de una mezcla conformada por los indios taínos, colonizadores españoles, evangelizadores ingleses, africanos y por último, las comunidades de hindúes y chinos. Ello hace que haya destacado por su rica cultura y su música, llegando a hacer que la isla sea famosa en el ámbito mundial. Los géneros musicales mento, ska, reggae, rockstrweadyy, dub, dancehall, ragga, ragga jungle y drum and bass, han sido todos concebidos en Jamaica pero el más popular entre ellos es el reggae, con sus diferentes estilos y mezclas, que fue dado a conocer a gran escala por Bob Marley, quien mediante esa música, unida a su mística y a su estética rastafari, profundizó e hizo conocida esta cultura en los años 70, convirtiéndole, como conocemos, en un auténtico ídolo …
